Washington Birth Records: Discover Your Loved One's True Identity

Birth records are considered part of a state and local government's vital records database, stored for the public to freely examine and use for their own research and information. These records often include copies of official birth certificates, which will provide you with the following information:

  • Date and place of birth
  • Full birth name
  • Full names of parents and their personal identifying information

The Washington State started its vital recording of significant events, such as births, even before 1891, though records were incomplete and fragmented since only few cities and counties were compliant. Between 1891 and 1907, vital recording was maintained on the county level, but the responsibility transferred to the state afterwards. If you wish to acquire certified copies of birth certificates after July 1, 1907, you may communicate with the Center of Health Statistics of the Washington State Department of Health. While if you need birth records from January 1, 1921 up to the present, you may contact the respective local health departments. While for King, Pierce, Snohomish and Spokane Counties, birth records that have occurred after July 1, 1907 are found in their local health departments. Furthermore, all other counties that need birth records after July 1, 1907, you may communicate with the concerned county auditor. These documents, however, are restricted only to eligible applicants, like those people whose name appears on the certificate, their immediate family members or legal representatives. Furthermore, application forms, valid photo ID and the standard $20-fee are required to be submitted upon application. You may process your requests via telephone, mailing or walk-in service, though it will be more convenient for your part to avail of the online service.
