Texas Birth Records: Discover Your Loved One's True Identity

Birth records are considered part of a state and local government's vital records database, stored for the public to freely examine and use for their own research and information. These records often include copies of official birth certificates, which will provide you with the following information:

  • Date and place of birth
  • Full birth name
  • Full names of parents and their personal identifying information

Texas did not begin its statewide vital registration of significant events, such as births, deaths and marriages, until 1903, though there were evidences that earlier records were performed. These recent birth records are found in the Bureau of Vital Statistics of the Texas Department of Health. These vital documents, however, are restricted and are not considered as public records. Thus, for you to be able to qualify as an applicant, you must show proof that you are the individual named on the certificate or that you are an immediate family member or legal representative. Next, you must submit a completed application form along with a copy of valid govenrment-issued photo ID, such as Military ID, government employment badge, student ID or state-issued driver's license. However, if you do not possess any photo ID, you may instead send a photocopy of two documents showing your name and address, like a utility bill or social security card, or you may send a copy of a photo ID of a family member. The office will not process any requests with the absence of the abovementioned identifications. In addition, you must also prepare a $22-standard fee, which will be non-refundable even if no documents are found upon search. Aside from their mailing, fax, and phone service, you may also process your documents online using your credit card as a mode of payment. An online service will provide more convenience in your part and a faster transaction of your requested documents.
