In January 1906, Pennsylvania started its statewide vital recording of significant events, such as births, deaths and marriages, though these documents' repositories are not found in one place only. While Pennsylvania births prior to 1906 are found in the county in question, all Pennsylvania counties, except for Philadelphia, Pittsburg, Erie and Scranton, have its birth records occurring after January 1906 stored in the Division of Vital Statistics of the Pennsylvania Department of Health. You may only be eligible to request for a restricted document only if your name appears on the certificate and if you are an immediate family member (spouse, siblings, grandparents, children, grandchildren of legal age) or a legal representative who can present a court order. Aside from personally visiting their office for application, you may opt to avail of their mailing service which requires enclosure of a completed application form with your signature, valid government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license, state-issued identification, Military ID or passport, that verifies your name and mailing address, and a standard service fee of $10, which may be paid via money order or personal check. In addition, you may also process your documents online for a more convenient and faster transaction.
