Oklahoma Birth Records: Discover Your Loved One's True Identity

Birth records are considered part of a state and local government's vital records database, stored for the public to freely examine and use for their own research and information. These records often include copies of official birth certificates, which will provide you with the following information:

  • Date and place of birth
  • Full birth name
  • Full names of parents and their personal identifying information

Though Oklahoma began its statewide birth registration in October 1908, the state's residents took another 20 years to be able to comply with the mandated order. In 1917, the state was again mandated to register births to the state, but it again took another 10 years before 90 per cent compliance was achieved. The county clerks are responsible in recording births and are able to provide information about birth certificates, but they are not allowed to issue certified copies of documents. This is actually the job of the Oklahoma Vital Records Seciton. Hence, if you need to obtain birth records after October 1908 up to the present, you may communicate with the Division of Vital Records of the Oklahoma Department of Health. For you to be able to start your request, you must first fill up the birth certificate application form, enclose the standard fee of $15, present a photocopy of a government-issued photo ID, state the copy's purpose, communicate your relatioship with the individual named on the record, your return address and telephone number. You may also opt to request for additional copies of the same requested document for $15 each. This, however, is non-refundable even if no documents are found upon search. These payments could also be paid via money order or personal check made payable to the Vital Records Service.
