Ohio Birth Records: Discover Your Loved One's True Identity

Birth records are considered part of a state and local government's vital records database, stored for the public to freely examine and use for their own research and information. These records often include copies of official birth certificates, which will provide you with the following information:

  • Date and place of birth
  • Full birth name
  • Full names of parents and their personal identifying information

The state of Ohio started its vital recording of important events, such as births, deaths and marriages, in 1908, though there were two prior unsuccessful legislative efforts performed. If you wish to obtain birth records prior to the said year, you may contact the Probate Clerk of the county where the event occurred, while you may communicate with the Division of Vital Statistics of the Ohio Department of Health for births that occurred after December 29, 1908. Aside from their walk-in service, you may opt to mail your requests and wait for 3-6 weeks. However, if you wish to make legal corrections on your birth certificate, you may wait for another 1-6 months before the document will be sent back to you. In addition, you must enclose the standard search fee of $21.50, which can be paid via money order or personal check made payable to the Treasurer State of Ohio. Counter checks, however, are not accepted. In addition, these checks should show printed name and address of the owner. Furthermore, you may opt to personally visit their office and wait for only about 30 minutes before you could receive your requested document. Moreover, you may process your documents online for a more convenient and faster transaction.
