New Mexico birth records had been available ever since 1920, though there were evidences that such important documents can date back to as early as 1889. This earlier records are found in the county, where the birth occurred. Currently, significant birth papers after 1920 are stored at the Bureau of Vital Records and are considered as restricted documents that cannot be openly shared to the public. Thus, you have to be aware that the bureau will only allow the individual himself and his immediate family members or legal representatives to gain access to the private documents. If you wish to request for a certified copy of a birth certificate from 1889 up to the present, you may consult the Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics of the New Mexico Department of Health. In addition, you must submit a completed application form, valid government/state-issued photo ID, such as a passport, State-issued identification, Military ID or a driver's license, and an enclosed standard fee of $10, which can be paid via money order or personal check made payable to the New Mexico Vital Records. However, this fee is not refundable at all and additional fees will apply if you opt to avail of the expedited online service. Your online processing of documents will allow you to pay via your credit card. Moreover, the Bureau of Vital Records also issues delayed birth certificates from 1880.
