Birth records are considered part of a state and local government's vital records database, stored for the public to freely examine and use for their own research and information. These records often include copies of official birth certificates, which will provide you with the following information:
- Date and place of birth
- Full birth name
- Full names of parents and their personal identifying information

Kansas State’s vital documents, such as birth certificates, have been made available ever since the year July 1911. While you may contact the concerned clerk in the county where the event occurred for births prior to July 1911, you may also write to the Kansas Office of Vital Statistics for any requests of obtaining significant certificates. Applicants eligible to acquire a copy of birth certificate are those whose names appear on the certificate, parents of the person on the birth certificate (his/her name should appear on the birth certificate), and the spouse, child or any person who have proof, such as a court order, to present. First, you can present one of the following: passport, driver’s license, state issued non-driver photo-ID card or US Military issued photo-ID. Second, you may present a letter that came from a government agency that was dated within the last six months, such as telephone or utility bills. If you fail to present the above identification, your application for obtaining birth certificate will be rejected. Lastly, you must include the standard $15-fee and you may acquire additional copies of the same requested document by adding another $15 for each copy. These fees may be made paid via money order or personal check made payable to the Vital Statistics.
