Georgia Birth Records: Discover Your Loved One's True Identity

Birth records are considered part of a state and local government's vital records database, stored for the public to freely examine and use for their own research and information. These records often include copies of official birth certificates, which will provide you with the following information:

  • Date and place of birth
  • Full birth name
  • Full names of parents and their personal identifying information

Though the state of Georgia started its vital recording in 1919, its residents were able to comply statewide birth registration only after 9 years. If you wish to acquire birth record copies that happened to Atlanta or Savannah prior to 1919, you may contact the vital records office of the county where the birth occurred, while you may communicate with the Vital Records Office of the Georgia Division of Public Health for births occurring after the said year. These significant documents are, however, restricted to people who show direct and tangible interest in the birth records. This would include people whose name appears on the certificate and those who can show proofs that they are immediate family members or legal representatives. The Department of Community Health and the state law mandates applicants to submit a completed application form, a copy of valid govenrment-issued photo ID, such as driver's license, passport, State-issued Identification or Military ID, and the standard fee of $15. You may also opt to obtain additional copies of the same document requested at the same time by adding another $5 for each copy. These fees may also be paid via money order made payable to the Vital Records. Personal checks are not accepted. You may also personally visit their office to obtain certified copies of birth certificates or you may avail of their phone or mailing services. For more convenience though, you may process your documents online, wherein all major credit cards are accepted.
