Colorado Birth Records: Discover Your Loved One's True Identity

Birth records are considered part of a state and local government's vital records database, stored for the public to freely examine and use for their own research and information. These records often include copies of official birth certificates, which will provide you with the following information:

  • Date and place of birth
  • Full birth name
  • Full names of parents and their personal identifying information

As early as 1875, the state of Colorado has started its vital recording of important events, such as births, deaths and marriages, though this had become unsuccessful due to the scattered compliance shown by the state's residents. Successful compliance was only achieved in 1910 and these vital documents are now found at the Vital Records of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. However, these significant documents are restricted only to people whose name appears on the certificate or to those who can show proof that they are immediate family members or legal representatives. In addition, you must submit a completed application form, a copy of valid government-issued picture ID, such as a driver's license, passport, State-issued Identification or Military ID, and the required $17.75-fee. You may also opt to request for additional copies of the same document requested at the same time by adding another $10-fee for each copy. These fees can be paid via money order or personal check made payable to the Vital Records Section. Furthermore, you may personally visit their office to avail of their same-day service, which is the fastest method of acquiring certified copies of birth records. Also, you may use their phone, mailing or better yet an online service, which is a more convenient and faster form of transaction.
