Arkansas Birth Records: Discover Your Loved One's True Identity

Birth records are considered part of a state and local government's vital records database, stored for the public to freely examine and use for their own research and information. These records often include copies of official birth certificates, which will provide you with the following information:

  • Date and place of birth
  • Full birth name
  • Full names of parents and their personal identifying information

In February 1914, Arkansas started its statewide vital recording of significant events, such as births, deaths and marriages that happened within the state. Arkansas, however, did not receive full compliance until 30 years after. Thus, if you wish to acquire certified copies of birth certificates prior to 1914, you may contact the clerk of the county in question, while you may communicate with the Division of Vital Records of the Arkansas Department of Health for births occurring after the said year. In addition to that, Little Rock and Fort Smiths births records are available ever since 1881.

These restricted documents, however, are not considered public records. Thus, you are only allowed to gain access to these significant records if you are eligible, meaning if you are the individual named on the certificate or if you can show proof that you are an immediate family member or a legal representative. Furthermore, you must submit a completed application form, a photocopy of valid government-issued photo ID and the standard fee of $12.

You may also opt to obtain additional copies of the same document requested at the same time by adding another $10 for each copy. Also, you may personally visit their office to avail of their same-day service, which is the fastest way to obtain your documents. Moreover, you may also avail of their phone and mailing service. For more convenience though, you may process your documents online, wherein all major credit cards are accepted.
